Qualification : Candidates having Post Graduate Degree in a concerned subject with min. 55% Marks (Relaxation of 5% Marks in case of reserved category) or an equivalent grade from a University /institution recognized by UGC..Candidates pursuing P.G Degree  are also eligible to appear at SET subject to the condition that they must acquire their degree with 55% or 50% marks, whichever is applicable, within two years from the date of holding of the SET.

Age Restriction: The Commission has not fixed any limit on upper age for appearing WBSET-2014.

Online Application Process: Candidates must apply online through official website www.examinationonline.in/wbcsportal . Candidates need to read directions available at the portal before submission of application.

Payment Details: Candidates should deposit amount as application money into any branch of United Bank of India.

Exam Pattern: West Bengal SET (State Eligibility Test) exam questions are divided in to three different papers. The first paper (paper 1) of WB-SET Exam consists of general questions of all subjects. West Bengal SET First Paper should be cleared to appear for the other two exam question papers of WB SET.

Exam Details: The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) (State Agency) conducts a State Level Eligibility Test for Lectureship in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal and Tripura (Accredited by University Grants Commission)(also known as West Bengal SET Exam / only WB-SET Exam) every year in West Bengal. According to the UGC norms WB-SET is for the West Bengal College Lectureship examination. 

About WB SET: West Bengal College Service Commission conducts West Bengal State Eligibility Test (also known as West Bengal SET Exam / only WB-SET Exam) every year in West Bengal. According to the UGC norms WB-SET is for the West Bengal College Lectureship examination.


(i) First paper of WB-SET Exam consists of objective type questions and the syllabus of question paper covers topics like Teaching & Research Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Basic English & Mathematics, and General Knowledge. Total of 60-multiple choice objective type questions are there in WB-SET Question Paper-1 (full marks 100) and the candidates need to answer any 50-objective question. No negative marking of wrong question and if more than 50 questions answered then the first 50 answered questions will be checked in the West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WB SET) Exam paper-1.(ii) The Paper-2 & Paper-3 of WB-SET Exam is of previously chosen subject (desired Subject to be chosen during the Application Form fill up process of WB-SET). The Questions of Paper-Two & Paper-Three of West Bengal SET exam are normally a bit difficult and of Post Graduation (PG) level studies.(iii) West Bengal SET Exam Paper-2 Questions are objective types and the Questions of WB-SET Exam Paper-3 is descriptive types. The descriptive questions of WB-SET Exam Paper-3 come of various marks as per the Syllabus of the chosen subject by the candidate during WB-SET Form fill up. So, be careful and choose the Subject in which you are the best to get the good marks in WB SET Exam by answering most questions of WB SET Exam.

Eligibility: Candidates who have obtained Master's Degree in any of these subjects with at least 55% marks (without any type of grace/ rounding off) or an equivalent grade preceded by at least a 2nd class 3-year Hons. Degree in the relevant subject or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University are eligible for SLET .

(i) For subjects of Education, Psychology and Mass Communication and Journalism, at least a second class 3-year Honors degree in any subject along with a 2-year Master's degree in the concerned subject is required

(ii) For Physical Sciences candidates having Honors and Master's degree in Physics, Computer Science and Electronic Science are eligible. Candidates with M.C.A degree instead of Master's degree are also eligible provided  they have Honors degree ill either of the above ­noted subjects.

(iii) For Mathematical  Sciences, candidates having Honors and Master's degree in Pure or Applied Mathematics or Statistics are eligible

(iv)  For Life Sciences, candidates having Honours and Master's degree in Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology and Home Sciences are eligible

(v) For Earth Sciences, candidates having Honors and Master's degree in Geology and Anthropology are eligible.


For SC/ST and all other categories of disabled persons including blind and low vision disabled candidates, those who have secured at least 50% marks (Without any type of grace or rounding off) in Master's Degree are eligible, provided they possess 2nd class 3-year Hons. Degree in the relevant subject.

Candidates who have submitted Ph.D. thesis or obtained M.Phil. Degree by the specified date or have already been qualified in the JRF/Lectureship Test conducted by UGC-CSIR (NET)/WBCSC (SLET) are exempted from appearing at this SLET provided they possess 55% marks at PG level. Serving Teachers in Colleges/Universities against substantive posts cannot appear at the SLET.
