UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)
conducts civil services examination. It is supreme body that conducts
examination all over India for the recruitment of personnel’s on ministry
level. It is conducted in 3 stages preliminary is followed by mains and then by
interview. The preliminary is on May 26th 2013 and Mains will held
on December 1st 2013.

Exam Pattern:
Preliminary examination is divided into
2 stages. First one is Preliminary Examination i.e. written examination and the
second examination is Main i.e. Written and Interview has objective type
questions.
Preliminary exam and Main Exam
General Studies (Multiple Choice
Questions) of 1000 marks, Essay of 200 marks, Optional subject I of 500 marks,
Compulsory English language of 100 marks making total of 1800 marks and
Personality Test of 275 marks making grand total of 2075 marks.
Syllabus:
Preliminary exam has objective type
questions.
Paper I syllabus: Current events of
national and international importance, History of India and Indian National
Movement, Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of
India and the World, Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political
System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc, Economic and Social
Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social
Sector Initiatives, etc, General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity
and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization, General
Science.
Paper II Syllabus: Comprehension,
Interpersonal skills including communication skills; Logical reasoning and
analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General mental

graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc, English Language Comprehension skills,
Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills will be tested
through passages from English language only.
Main Exam has 7 papers first
will be Indian Language from given List of UPSC second will be of English,
third will be of Essay rest of the 4 will be optional Subjects (Agriculture, Animal
Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Civil
Engineering, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering,
Geography, Geology, History, Law, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical
Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science &
International Relations, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology,
Statistics, Zoology)
Finally
the interview of 300 marks will be conducted only for those who qualify in both
will be called for interview.
