UPSC Revised Pattern: An Overview

UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has changed the pattern of Civil Examination. It will be implemented from the year 2013. Candidates’ preparing for the examination has to be updated about the examination pattern before appearing in the examination.

The changes incorporated by UPSC are following:

·         The first and foremost information is that the total number of papers which applicants use to give was Nine, now it has been shortened to Seven.

Weight age of marks in English and General Studies has increased but it has reduced in optional Subjects.


·         In General Studies the number of papers has increased from 2 to 4 papers.

I.    Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society
   
II.    Constitution, Governance, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations
 

 III.   Environment, Economic Development, Technology, Bio-diversity, Security and Disaster  Management.

 
 IV.    Integrity, Ethics, and Aptitude
·         On the other hand, in Optional Subject the number of papers has reduced to 2 instead of 4.

UPSC Revised Pattern:

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION:

  • ·         Paper I of 200 marks of 2 hrs Duration.
  • ·         Paper II of 200 marks of 2 hrs Duration
MAIN EXAMINATION:
  • Paper-I (Essay Paper) of 250 Marks.
  • Paper-II of (General Studies–I) of 250 Marks
  • Paper-III of (General Studies–II) of 250 Marks
  • Paper-IV of (General Studies–III) of 250 Marks
  • Paper-V of (General Studies–IV) of 250 Marks
  • Paper-VI of (Optional Subject– Paper-I) of 250 Marks
  • Paper-VII of (Optional Subject– Paper-II) of 250 Marks
  • Total (Written Examination) of 1750 Marks
  • Personality Test of 275 Marks
  • Making it (Grand Total) of 2025 Marks
